Oh my goodness, I HAVE TO HAVE THIS!!!!!!!!

It's a little Brian Urlacher onesie jersey! Cutest thing EVER. Even if the bean sprout is a girl...she will be wearing it! (She won't get a cheerleading outfit...she can have a jersey like her mother!)
:o)
...here's the 12 week belly! Except it's not entirely accurate, since I sucked in my stomach at the last minute before the picture was taken. Just a reflex I guess, as I've been sucking in the stomach for pictures since about mid-college, when it was no longer flat. Oh well. (Please note that I'm still not doing anything with my hair. And I don't really have a butt, unfortunately, that's just the giant pants I'm wearing.)

Well, we're back, and not a moment too soon...while it's always a little depressing to leave the family knowing we won't see them for quite some time, there really is no place like home. Jack and Toby were here to greet us of course...Toby is usually more snuggly when we return from a trip, but he hung back and Jack hogged all of the attention this time, which is fine with me. He insisted on being carried around (yelled at us if we put him down for too long), and purred the whole time. I swear I will never spoil my children, but I've clearly ruined the cats.
Anyhow, a rundown of the trip: after a rough nine hours on the road last Saturday (including a dinner stop and a bunch of crappy traffic), we arrived at Craig's parents' house in NJ. They were out so we waited up until they got home, chatted with them until about 1:00am, and then went to bed. Slept in the next morning, woke up and enjoyed a wonderful breakfast (I've so been craving breakfast foods) of blueberry pancakes, fruit, and bacon. Very good bacon. I appreciate good bacon. Anyhow, we also went to what I've decided is the world's best grocery store: Wegman's. It's like a combination of Whole Foods, Fresh Market, Williams-Sonoma, and a regular grocery store. Craig and I are food store junkies, so we were in heaven. I bought organic brown rice cakes (best thing I've found for settling my stomach), pretzels, raspberry wasabi mustard, grapefruit soda, some really awesome French brie (yes, it's pasteurized, give me some credit...), apricot fruit paste to go along with the brie, and I know there was more but I can't remember it at the moment.

That evening, we had steak on the grill (I'm also big-time into red meat right now, something else that's not usual for me), grilled vegetables, cucumber salad, potato and onion packets, and raspberry pie. Best meal I've eaten in AGES. The next morning (Monday), we headed about 2.5 hours north into NY to visit Craig's grandparents. Did a little bit of fishing (I caught nothing. NOTHING!), had burgers on the grill for dinner, and just hung out. The next day, it was in the 90s out and HUMID....now, that's normal for NC, but mind you, we have air conditioning. Craig's grandparents only have it in the guest bedroom. Normally that wouldn't bother me, but apparently incubating the spawn-child has made me incredibly intolerant of the heat. So on Tuesday I made a stab at fishing in the morning but had to go back and lay down, then when I felt well enough I sat on the porch in the shade and worked on things for school. I did not feel well at all that day, even though Craig's aunt joined us for dinner AND Craig made his famous baby back ribs for dinner. Wednesday we headed back to his parents' house and hung out for a few hours until his mom got home from work (I played with her cats. They're awesome. I should have taken some pictures but I was too busy playing), and then we went out to a seafood buffet for dinner. WONDERFUL. Spent some time chatting, went to bed, and left at about 9:00am this morning....the majority of the return trip was uneventful, it took about 8 hours and that includes the hour-long lunch break we took at Cracker Barrel (more breakfast food, woohoo!). Of course, we did hit some stop-and-go traffic so in addition to my usual morning sickness (since I haven't slept well the past few days, even my medication didn't give me much relief), I also had motion sickness. There should be a law against that, because it was awful. But, now we're home, and I am pretty excited to be sleeping in my own bed again, and I'm pretty sure the bean sprout is happy too. :o)
The lake at Nana and Poppy's house:

Craig, manning the oars:

Fishing. Note the absence of fish at the end of the pole. Also note the awful hair...I refused to do my hair all week (it was vacation!), I just pulled it back in a knot after showering. It actually didn't look too bad until I got out on the lake:

They just don't.
I used to be an all-star road-tripper....I could ration my beverages so as to avoid making numerous restroom stops (averaged slightly less than one an hour today and I didn't even drink that much), I could survive on the snacks I packed (had to stop at Chili's for a real dinner, where I proceeded to devour a rack of ribs and an ear of corn like a rabid, starving bobcat), and as long as I didn't read while the vehicle was moving, I didn't feel sick (just being in the car made me feel like crap).
So, yes. Aside from the return trip on Thursday, methinks I'll be avoiding the car for awhile. But we're here now and seeing everyone should be fun, so it's all good. Until Thursday. ;o)
Well, there isn't much new going on here...I have outgrown most of my regular clothing (except one pair of wonderful, low-cut, stretchy jeans that used to be a size too big on me) but am too small for most of my maternity clothing....so I'm having to mix and match the two. I'll post a picture before too long...I'm going to start having Craig take pictures of my expanding midsection at regular intervals, then I figure we can make a flip-book or at least laugh at how ridiculous my belly-button ring is going to look. (I just can't bring myself to take it out yet. Plus, I'm not sure how to take it out.)
Anyhow, tomorrow we head up to New Jersey and New York to visit the Haynor side of the family, so that should be nice, we've not been up that way in a few years. Craig wanted to wait and tell his family members our news in person, but broke down and told his mom the other day, so it will be a surprise for everyone else. (It worked out for the best though, because she kindly called the other day to ask what foods I am or am not eating right now, because of the whole pregnancy-food-aversion thing. Until you are pregnant you do not know what it truly means to despise a particular food.)
Well, that's all for now! I'm pushing 11 weeks now and starting to feel a little better, before too long the first trimester will be a distant unpleasant memory...woohoo!
While searching Google for a picture to go along with yesterday's post, I came across this travesty:

The funny part is that it's a REAL invention. Someone was so concerned about squishing their infant that instead of doing the sane thing and putting the kid in a bassinet next to the bed (or in a Wendy Bellissimo Moses Basket, which I totally want), they built a cage for it. Just....wow.
Also related: BabyCage.net .....freaking HILARIOUS! (At least that one is clearly a joke.)
Bear with me. I'm going to get a little sappy here for a minute, but I promise to counteract it with some sarcasm in another day or so. (Plus, I can get away with it. I have crazy pregnancy hormones, you know, and it's all their fault.) I just have to say that yes, the first trimester is rotten and yes, this whole thing is stressful, and yes, giving birth is going to really suck...but I have the best friends and family, and I know that having them will get me through it all and maybe even make it fun. ;o) I have family members who are probably just as excited about the baby as we are, who are interested in everything from how I'm feeling to what we're naming the kid...I have friends to swap clothes with, friends that bring me fresh fruit when I feel too crappy to go out to the store to get it myself, I have friends who've been there who can offer me their own stories and encouragement, and friends who haven't who are still excited for me. I have teammates at work who have been wonderful listeners, and were awesome when I was first hit with the awful morning sickness. Even my OB-GYN center has a more caring and helpful staff than I ever expected. (Now if I can just convince them to not stick any more needles in me...)
And of course, there's Craig...we've been through a lot in the past year, and even though things were hard it made me realize that I am insanely lucky to have him. I love that man more now than I did when I married him, and that's a LOT. (Plus, you've got to love a man who will drive you to Wendy's at 11:30 at night because you HAVE GOT TO HAVE french fries.... ;o) He taught me how to drive stick a few years ago and he was so patient and encouraging, I know it'll be good to have him in the delivery room (even though I still think it's gross and no one should ever have to witness it), and I know he'll be very helpful once the baby is born. Speaking of which....I think I can handle this whole parenting thing, but not only do I think Craig can handle it, I think he'll be a wonderful father.
I'm not going to lie, when I stop and think about it this whole thing kind of scares the crap out of me, but I'll be able to do it, just because I'm surrounded by the best friends and family that anyone could ask for. :o)
